My Testimony

Growing up in a very religious family, I had a heavy dosage of church from baby to senior in high school.  Even with going to church and bible school weekly, I almost never thought about anything “religious.”  In fact, up until my third year of undergrad, I would have considered myself an atheist.  It seemed to me like evolution was true and so there was no need for god.  That all changed when I began to spend more time thinking my purpose in life.  I was going to live the American Dream — go to college, get a good job making lots of money, start a family, make lots of money working so that I can live……….so that I can keep working at my high-paying job………...so that I can live…………...so that I can keep working…………so that I can send my kid to college……...so they can get a good job earning good money………..so they can live………….so they can work…………   work to live, live to work.  What really matters if all we care about is surviving?  I finally realized that without God, we are living in a vicious, purposeless, cycle that God did not intend for us.  Just before your last breath of life you are going to remember the relationships with people that you had, not the expensive cars you bought and well-paying (but meaningless) job you held.  Because God made us in his image and because he loves us, we have a purpose — to honor and love him by loving on and serving others………...and he gave us gifts to aid in doing so.  Three years ago I decided to trust Jesus.  What a wild ride it’s been.  I have since discovered my gift of endurance sports, namely triathlon.  While gobs of money may not be in my future, I will be living my life without regret.  Since being born-again I have seeked God’s will of pursuing the sport of triathlon.  With his strength and gifts, I hope to make a difference in others’ lives by using triathlon as a tool and platform to reach people.
